Fuel Cell

Fuel Cell

Fuel cells generate electricity through electrochemical reactions between the stored hydrogen and atmospheric oxygen. The generated electricity and heat can be used as energy. Key features of Toshiba Fuel cell systems.

  • Total Energy Efficiency > 95%
  • Stable and Long life
  • Environmentally friendly, no CO2 emission
  • Scalable from 100kW to MW range
  • Quick start and load followability

Fuel cells provide high power generation efficiency with direct chemical reactions. The heat generated by fuel cells during power generation can be captured by water or a heat exchanger and used by other facilities. Therefore, fuel cells provide extremely high total energy efficiency and can be used as distributed energy facilities.

Toshiba’s Fuel cell system is designed according to “module concept”, thus it can meet any demand of customers by adding multiple modules even in MW range.

Toshiba's unique fuel cell stack structure eliminates the need for an external humidifier. Instead, the cell stack is internally humidified and dehumidified automatically to keep it at the optimum humidity at which its performance is maintained. Because of this feature, Toshiba's fuel cells provide high durability and stability.

PEFC (Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell) starts working in minutes, making them suitable for Daily Start-Stop (DSS) operations. Their power output can be varied according to the load. In addition, PEFC is capable of tracking load changes because of their flexibility to change the output power. Therefore, they are suitable for energy generation applications to satisfy various requirements.
